These days, there’s such a focus on the individual.
On what I need. On me.
It’s seductive.
In part, because there is a truth to it. We do need to look inward to grow. We need to consider ourselves, to examine our feelings, our motivations, to come to grips with who we are and what drives us.
There’s a problem though.
Such practices easily become a habit.
Ideas of self-care, self-love, self-compassion are promoted so heavily that we start to forget – they’re only one part of the equation.
Important, without a doubt, but just one part.
We wither when we separate ourselves out, cut ourselves off. When we are so cautious about how we feel and what we think we need that we don’t engage.
That we forget to live.
We get so lost in the search for contentment, for what we need, that we miss the brightness of life – staring us in the face.
Sometimes we just need to get out.
To feel the wind. To dance.
To remember, that we’re not a problem to be solved. We don’t need to make everything perfect.
We can simply breathe. Dance and live again.
Find our tribe.
